Welcome to the history site for the newly named
DELAWARE VALLEY ART LEAGUE
The original name was
"The Art League Of Delaware County"
It seems there has been some confusion, and it still continues...regarding our name. Way back in 1947 on November 10,
a group of ladies who enjoyed art and painting got together in the home of Catherine Brogan.
This group called themselves the " Arts and Crafts League." Some time thereafter, date unknown, the name of this group of ladies was changed to
"The Art League of Delaware County."
Over the years the size of the group grew and members joined from other counties in Pennsylvania, and in 2000 the membership voted to change the name to simply
"The Art League."
This led to further confusion in that when one searched for us on the internet, up came thousands of "Art Leagues," making it difficult to find our web site unless one used our highly publicized official domain name.
Since we have no home or official address or phone number it was also difficult to obtain publicity. And finally it did not really geographically represent all our members.
It was difficult to communicate this new name to the membership and some members still persisted using the old name, Art League of Delaware County.
In order to somewhat apease these members and to give the League better recognition and a home of sorts, in March of 2008 the membership voted overwhelmingly to revise our name to:
DELAWARE VALLEY ART LEAGUE
